New Year resolutions
In the beginning of the year we feel hopeful, we have goals we would want to accomplish, sometimes few, sometimes many, dreams we’d want brought to life but how can we be sure that this time they will manifest, when we’ve been dragging them from years to years.
In our head we see it all : the weight falling off, the confidence gained, the new job, the dream house...but they seem so far away, that we somehow choose to keep going with our current self, despite knowing that’s not what we want. But how can we help it, when that’s all we’ve ever known. At least that’s real, right now. There is no question mark surrounding it. So we continue to indulge in the food we shouldn’t eat, we keep scrolling watching people live their lives, their dreams, numbing ourselves so to not feel the pain of the wishes unfulfilled.
At some point we find the courage the motivation, we start the process we had planned , but not for long, because of course life happens, we get stressed, the motivation wears off, and we go back again to the habits that our future self so dearly hates because they keep making him wait. A few times here and there we are reminded of that , so we start again, we focus again, but as if it was inevitable, we return to the safe place, again.
This vicious cycle has been going on for a long time so to that , we also got used to. It has become an habit. And like that, as for the years before, a new year comes 2027, but we are still at the same place : heart full of wishes, mind full of ideas, reality unchanged. Unless... we break the cycle this time. Right now.
Make it a non negotiable
We have to be radical. We have to get serious.Our future self doesn’t deserve to wait any longer. And Time is not on our side. We have this deep feeling in us, this craving for a different life and it is not going to get away until we make the choice everyday to take a step forward even so tiny towards the future that we want.
The path we take, the plans, don’t have to be perfect. They just have to be taken. Action is what gonna get us closer. Spending time, trying to make the perfect plan is just a way for our brain to give us a sense of accomplishment without putting in the work because of his fear of the unknown. So we have to make the unknown known and safe by committing every single day, even just for a few minutes, even just for a few steps. The unknown has to become the norm so that our current self can finally bloom and so that the sleeping beauty that is our future self can finally wake up and thrive.
